Auction Supporting the March of Dimes

If you haven't heard of the March of Dimes, let me just tell you, it is an amazing organization.  Really.  Go check them out.  http://www.marchofdimes.com/

I have a few friends who have truly been touched by this organization.

Sweet Ella is the same age as Big One.  She was born six weeks early and has had one doctors appointment after another trying to figure out why she was now growing properly.  Two years later she was diagnosed and treated for malrotation and she is finally eating like a horse and growing!  She is still keeping her mama on her toes and the doctors scratching their heads, but she is amazing.

Baby Johnny was also born the same month as Big One.  He would be almost 2 1/2 years old, but he was so special that God decided Johnny needed to keep him company up in Heaven.  Five days after he was born.

If you have read my blog before you may have seen our tribute to Baby Destiny.  She was diagnosed with a heart condition while she was still in her mommy's belly.  She fought for four long months and touched many lives before she joined Baby Johnny in watching over all of us.

Some of my mommy friends are going to be doing The March of Dimes Walk in support and in honor of those babies mentioned above.

They are doing their best to raise $1000.00 for this amazing organization.

Some of my other mommy friends (and myself) have donated items (many handmade with lots of love) that will be put up for auction to raise money for their walk.

The auction begins tomorrow, April 1, and goes until April 10.

Buy for yourself.  For your kiddos.  Grandkids.  Nieces and Nephews.  Friends.  Parents.  Sisters and brothers.

Really.  Just buy buy buy!

A funny story for you.

So a couple of days ago the Hubster came home a little miffed.  He stopped at a gas station on the way home to fill up.  Totally normal.  While the gas was pumping he decided to wash his windshield.  Again, totally normal (heh, for him).

Then a mid-twenty-something pulled up in a rather sporty and not so cheap car.

I guess this is where I should add that the Hubster traded in his beloved truck to get an older and more gas efficient car for his fairly long commute to work.  He couldn't stand to think about all the wasted gas and money being spent just to keep the truck because he liked it.  So anyway...

Girl: "um, excuse me?"
Hubster: "yes?"
Girl: "Can you come here and wash my windshield?"

(side note - the Hubster is wearing black dress pants and a white long sleeve button-down collared shirt)

Hubster: ignores girl and turns back to his car
Girl: excuuuse me
Hubster: (clearly miffed now) WHAT.
Girl:  I asked you to wash my windshield.
Hubster:  I don't know who you think you are, but I promise you that I make more money than you (on a side note - probably not his finest moment here...).  I don't know who you think you are.  Or who you think I am.  But I do not work here.  And no.  I will not clean your windshield.

This is where he walks over to her very fancy car and hands her the squeegee.

She didn't even finish pumping her gas and took off like a bat out of hell.

Let me just add that we do not live in a state where people have to pump your gas for you.  And even in those states, they don't wash your windshield...

Maybe this is just humorous to me?  The Hubster isn't normally a confrontational sort of guy.  If someone is bugging him (heh, unless it is me) he will ignore it... or them.

Maybe this girl caught him on a bad day?

Honestly, I think he just wanted to teach her a lesson.  Chances are he was 100% correct.  Chances are he does make more money than she does.  Even though he drives an old gas-efficient car and she drives a crazy expensive sports car.  Chances are that she is used to people doing things for her.  The Hubster has worked very hard from the time he was 15 to get where he is today.  He prides himself in that, as he should.  He believes in buying only what you can afford.  Living within your means.  Working hard.  Even when others are not watching you.  Treating people with respect, even when someone does a less desirable job.  Even if that person works for you.  Especially when that person works for you.

Hopefully he taught her that appearances could be deceiving.  Probably not.  But one could hope.

I can only imagine the next conversation that girl had on her cell phone.

You will not believe what this guy just said to me....

heh.

Little One's Big Day!

So here is a picture of Little One's big day!  I am going to have to do a re-do to get a couple close up pics in her beautiful outfit, but we were so crazy busy (and our camera died) that I didn't get any!

On another topic, Little One is doing better today.  Her right ear is better, left is still not good.  No more retracting of her lungs, so that is great news.  I'm happy that we can stop a couple of the meds.  Hopefully she is 100% soon!

Not what I had planned

I was planning to have a really fun weekend with my best friend from college.  It didn't happen.  Little One was really unhappy and unable to sleep Friday night.  I told the Hubster something was wrong.  It was.

I took her to the ped Saturday morning.  She has bronchiolitis (sp??) and a nasty double ear infection.  Yes.  Again.  Sigh.  Poor thing was miserable.  I can't say I blame her.

We've never had to deal with breathing issues.  I'm not going to lie, it freaks me out.  They told me that if we went to the ER they would have admitted us.  That also freaked me out.  So if we wanted to take her, we absolutely could.  Or they would give us all the same meds and we could do it at home.  We opted to keep her at home.  Ew... nasty hospital germs.

So it has been a very long weekend with very little sleep.  Little One is on like seven different meds.  Not fun.  For any of us.

I do think she is feeling better and we have an appointment in the morning to check her progress.  Keep your fingers crossed.

In better news, it was beautiful - but very cold - all weekend so the Hubster was able to finish putting up the new swing set!  It is awesome!  Big One is in looooooooooove!  I'll try to get an action shot the next time we are out there.

How much you wanna bet that will be tomorrow if Big One has anything to say about it!

Off to bed.

::yawn::

Tired

I'm.  Very.  Tired.

It was a long week of sewing and preparing for Little One's Christening, a wonderful but exhausting time having family and friends in town over the weekend.

And now Little One has Big One's virus.  Gah.

She must be feeling really crummy because she was up like six times last night.  ::yawn::

It took more than two hours to get her to sleep tonight.  None of my magical ways worked and so the Hubster gave it a go and won the battle...eventually.

Somehow I think Little One will be winning the war.  I can see on the video monitor she is not sleeping well.

Onto happier news... my best friend from college is visiting this weekend!  Super excited to see her!

Oh and one of these days I'll have Christening pics.  Until then you can blame my sister.  Heh.

Success!

Can you see that?!  Only 1/2 oz left!!!  We started off with 3 1/2 oz!!!!  Hooray for miracles!  Big thanks to the NUK Orthodontic bottle!  This was bottle #6 that we tried.  Geesh, Little One really prefers the boob!

So I leave you with this small peace of heaven...

Way to Roll!!

So Little One rolled over this evening!

The hubster put her down on her belly for a minute, I was cooking dinner, he came back and exclaimed "she rolled over!!!"  Of course he put her to the test, and she did it again!  Wooo hoooo!  Way to roll, Little One!

The funny thing is, Big One rolled the Monday after her Christening too!  Strange, huh?

Hooray for a rolling baby!

My first ruffle

So I finally attempted my first ruffle.  I'm going to be honest, it is kind of a pain.  I'm sure it gets easier with practice, but not going to lie, definitely not my favorite part of sewing.  However, it is so gosh darn cute when it is done!

So here is my sister-in-law's birthday present!

I think it came out rather cute.  My sis-in-law looooooved it.  That makes me super, crazy happy!

Oh, and my mother-in-law told me that apparently I can buy a ruffle foot?!  How did I not know this?!  Going to have to research that little tid bit!

My mom also loooooooved her apron, so double hooray!

We had an absolutely fabulous weekend celebrating Little One's Christening.  We had amazing weather.  We had the people we love the most here with us.  It was awesome.  I promise to post some pics soon!

With that, to bed I go.  I am exhausted!

Getting Ready To Celebrate

A few different things!

My mom's birthday!  She will be here tomorrow, and I am super excited to see her and actually celebrate her birthday with her.  It has been years!

My sister-in-law's birthday!  We never get to celebrate with her either so hooray!

Also, Little One's Christening!  Very, very big event for us!  We are so very excited!  She barely fits in the Christening gown we got for Big One.  So it is a good thing we're doing it this weekend!  We are having lots of family visiting us to celebrate.  I couldn't be more thrilled that they understand how important it is to us!  Coming into town:  Mom, Dad, Sis, Bro, Mother-in-law, Sister-in-law, 2 nieces, and a few others!  We also have several friends that will be here!

So to prepare for the birthday celebrations I've been doing a bit of sewing.  I can show you a picture because I'm pretty sure my mom has other things to do than to check on my blog the night before she travels!

Please ignore the fact that I have no head, I didn't do my hair or make-up.  My mom loves black, white, and red together.  It is the theme of her kitchen.  I sure hope she likes it!

I also made 2 bookmarks for them.  And I'm working on my sister-in-law's apron.  My first attempt at a ruffle.  Geesh.  Not as simple as I thought it would be.... maybe that isn't the right word.  I guess I just figured it wouldn't take so long to gather the material!

So that is what I have been doing instead of cleaning my house.  Hey, I did get some laundry done!

Recent Crafts

So I have been rather crafty lately.  I have the bags under my eyes to prove it, heh.  And the photos.

I loooooove my bread machine.  It does all the hard work for you!  This french bread was amazing!
Again, bread machine.  Love.  This was my first attempt at a King Cake.  No, I don't normally celebrate Fat Tuesday, but I couldn't resist!  Yum!  Really I thought it was more like a glorified cinnamon roll than a cake.  But that was ok with me!
My first attempt at a Crayon Roll.  I think it came out pretty cute.  It holds 16 regular sized crayons.  You like it?  You can buy it!

I'm donating it for an auction that my friends are having to raise money for the March of Dimes walk they are participating in in honor and support of some of the wonderful babies we know today and some that have passed way too soon.

More items will be added until the auction begins on April 1st, so make sure you check back then!  Don't worry, I will remind you!

What about this one?
Everyone loves Curious George!

*Crayons not included.  Every parent has them, right?

I'm hoping to make a couple more by the time April 1st rolls around.

Big One Funny

So I was upstairs this morning putting Little One's 0-3 month clothes away finally, and I hear Big One calling me from downstairs while she was eating breakfast.  I tried to explain I would be there in a minute I was getting Little One dressed.

Her little diva two year old attitude came out, "Mommy come here right now!"  Um.... that is not how this works.

I responded with, "Watch it!"

Big One responded with, "I do want to watch it!  Mickey Mouse!"

Heh.  Clearly she doesn't always understand the words I'm saying.

Bottle Battle

Please excuse the crummy quality.  Cell camera + angry screaming baby = crummy pic.

I think you can see how it is going.

We've tried Dr. Brown's, First Year's Breastflow, and Avent.

Happy Four Months Little One!

I'm sure most moms would post a super cute picture of their Little One all dressed up doing something fun like sitting.  Not me!  This was the only picture I got of her today and I just thought my goodness, look at those legs!!

If you couldn't tell, we were at the pediatrician's office.  Poor thing just cannot get healthy!  She just finished 14 days of an anti-biotic for an ear infection but it isn't gone.  So round 2 here we come...

It wasn't a real Four Month Check Up so we didn't get a length measurement.  But Little One is a whopping 15lbs 9.5oz!  Guess that explains my back pain!

Little One is doing a great job eating, obviously.  heh.  She is doing a pretty good job of napping primarily in her room (in her RockNPlay).  Sleeping from around 11pm until 5am give or take an hour or so.  She has head really great head and neck control for a couple of months, but now I would say she's at 99%.  She doesn't have much interest in rolling over.  She can make it about 3/4 of the way over from back to front.  She is great at tracking things and people with her eyes.  She is grabbing at her toys and loves her playmat.  She is talking up a storm, smiling, and laughing much more often.  I absolutely adore her.  We all do.

So happy four months, Little One!  So happy I'm your Mommy.

Girls Night Out

Saturday I had a much needed Girls Night Out (GNO) with a couple of friends.  We went to a trendy sushi bar (where I did not eat sushi).  We ate a bunch.  Talked even more.  We were trying to get as much in as we could because one of our friends is moving.  Far away.  As in hours and hours on a plane.  It makes me very sad to see her leave but it is a fabulous opportunity for their family.

This is one of the first really good friends that I made when I moved here.  She has a son who is Big One's age.  I am really going to miss her.  A lot.  Big One is going to miss her son.  A lot.

So after a really good time sans kiddos I came home to an exhausted hubby.  Little One decided she did not want to take a bottle.  She wanted milk straight from the source.  Which, as you can imagine, hubby wasn't able to pull off.  Heh.

She ended up sleeping until 5am anyway, so she was obviously not starving.

I tried again the next morning, first hubby and then me.  No go.

Man I wonder where she gets her stubbornness from!?

So now I am in search of another type of bottle.  Dr. Brown's you are clearly not my friend.

Sorry Little One.  You may have won the battle, but I will win the war!

And to my very good friend, you will be missed.  A lot.

Glad we didn't go to the ER and Pumpkin Hats

Well, we have been very fortunate in not having any trips to the ER with the girls yet  (knock on wood).  Let's hope that continues!

However, yesterday we were at a new playplace with a friend and kiddos.  Big One missed a ladder step and her jaw hit the landing, tooth went through her lip.  Fun times.

Fortunately she only cried and bled for a few minutes.  Oh and my friend is a nurse.  Heh.  So we continued to play, then went to lunch.

On our way home I called the ped.  By the time they got back to me I was about to put Big One down for a nap.  Sigh.

They wanted us to go to the ER in case she needed stitches.  I was pretty sure she didn't (turns out I was right) so we just went in.

Barely has a battle scar.

See that tiny  red mark under her lip on the right?  Yeah.  That.

Penicillin for 2 days to keep infection away.  Phew.

And just because I think this is the cutest hat on Little One.  Enjoy.
